Last week was a total drag for me training wise.  It was HOT (100 degrees and above!) and I had a lot of family commitments going on all at once.  I only managed to squeeze in 3.49 miles in between birthday parties, anniversary’s and girls night out’s (finally saw New Moon).  I felt really bad for not walking, but it just didn’t get done.

I was, however, able to gather up some more essential supplies to help me Keep Going ®.

Probably the most important item a 3 Day Walker can have is their shoes.  I’ve been trying out a few different styles so that I can find the one that will help me be successful in my journey.  This week, my New Balance 846 Walking Shoes arrived.  Can you say “CUTE?”  White and hot pink…and I love them.  New Balance has been associated with Susan G. Komen for the Cure® for 21 years and the New Balance shoes are the official shoe of the walk.  If you are a walker this year, be sure to check your local calendar for Training Kick Off’s and Shoe Fitting events being held across the country.  There you will find New Balance representatives to help get you ready.  I’ll be sure to post again and let you know how my 846’s are treating me and my feet!

Then, I got an amazing supply of GU. “ What the heck is GU, you ask?”  Well, GU is this portable, energy and endurance gel that helps give you the umph you need while running, cycling and even walking.  I tried it out for the first time this past week.  There are many flavors to choose from, but I had the Tri-Berry one on hand.  OMGosh!  To me, this was sweet delicious nectar from the energy Gods!  It was very good tasting, very sweet and I’ll be darned if I didn’t feel a pick me up during that last mile before home.  No jitters, no wires, just umph.  Now, I’ve only used it the one time, but  I have a giant box of flavors and varieties (chomps, brews and gels, oh my!) and can’t wait to put them to the test.  This walker needs all the help she can get.

Finally, thanks to fellow Keep Going Blogger® Shawn Ann,  I was able to get my hands on a very cool walking iPhone app called Walkmeter.   This is a really handy application to have while walking.  It has a ton of neat features that I can’t wait to try.  I am still getting the hang of it, and haven’t figured out all it can do, yet.  But I’m excited to experiment.  I’ll let you know how that goes, too.

Happenings This Week

I am doing better at training this week than last. I’ve already logged 7 miles (compared to my pitiful 3.4 last week).  You can follow my training and be my friend at Daily Mile if you like.  I like friends!  I hope to get one more walk in tonight before leaving for Bloggers on Bourbon this weekend.

Before I wrap it up, I want to be sure to send you over to Caitlin’s Blog because she is walking in the Boston 3 Day THIS WEEKEND (July 23-25)!  You can follow her real time account of this amazing journey by following her twitter all weekend.  GOOD LUCK CAITLIN!

I suppose that’s it for now.  I hope you keep following my journey and encourage me to Keep Going®!
