Ten years ago, I never would have given the Disney movie, Sorcerer’s Apprentice a second glance.  I liked comedy’s and tear-jerker chick flicks.  But when you end up married to a Sci-Fi/Fantasy geek and have a house full of boys, you come to appreciate magic, action and crazy imaginations.  And while we don’t actually go out to the theater very often (SO expensive!), when I saw the trailer for the Sorcerer’s Apprentice, I told Bob “we are going.”  And we did.  On our anniversary no less.

Balthazar Blake (Nicolas Cage) is a master sorcerer in modern-day Manhattan trying to defend the city from his arch-nemesis, Maxim Horvath (Alfred Molina). Balthazar can’t do it alone, so he recruits Dave Stutler (Jay Baruchel), a seemingly average guy who demonstrates hidden potential, as his reluctant protégé. The sorcerer gives his unwilling accomplice a crash course in the art and science of magic, and together, these unlikely partners work to stop the forces of darkness. It’ll take all the courage Dave can muster to survive his training, save the city and get the girl as he becomes The Sorcerer’s Apprentice. (www.imdb.com)

Sorcerer’s Apprentice was wicked fun in the theater, so I was thrilled when it came out on Blu-Ray and DVD in time for Christmas.

It’s a fabulously fun movie full of adventure and magic, and as my 6yo pointed out after he finally got to see it, “mom, there were no bad words in that at all.”  YAY Disney!  They provided an action packed adventure suitable for my boys.

The Two-Disc Blu-ray / DVD Combo was released into stores on November 30th and is full of special features only found on Blu-Ray.  They include:

  • Disney Enhanced High Definition Picture and Sound (1080p)
  • Bonus:  Magic in the City
  • Bonus:  The Science of Sorcery
  • Bonus:  Making Magic Real
  • Bonus:  Fantasia:  Reinventing a Classic
  • Bonus:  The World’s Coolest Car

  • Fun outtakes

Anthony loved watching all the bonus features on Magic.  I do believe this is one of my favorite movies, yet.  We’ve already watched it several times this week and I imagine we’ll be watching it again and again.  It’s the perfect gift for young, wildly imaginative children!

You can find Sorcerer’s Apprentice in Blu-Ray on Amazon and anywhere else Blu-Rays are sold.

FTC:  I was provided the Sorcerer’s Apprentice Blu-Ray/DVD Combo pack so that I could tell you about it.  Opinions are always my own.
