It’s finally my turn to drink! If you’re slow on the uptake, Heather, Cheryl and I are doing real mom wine reviews on a rotating basis. Every Saturday we will bring you our thoughts on a new bottle. Last week, Cheryl reviewed a Generation Seven White and the debut post was done by Heather with her thoughts on a 2009 New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc.  They both seem to favor white wines so aren’t you lucky I’m here with a red review?

Now, to preface this whole thing.  I am not a wine expert.  I am a wine drinker, wine lover, wine guzzler.  But I wouldn’t consider myself an aficionado at all.  I buy wine by the box.  At Albertsons.  I don’t know what it means to have “oak undertones” and I don’t know what tannins are.  I am just a mom who drinks to forget what assholes how spirited her kids are.

I went out last week and actually shopped for a bottle of wine.  I started at Henry’s Marketplace hoping something would catch my eye.  But it was quite confusing looking at all the choices.  I then headed over to Costco.  Costco has quite a large wine selection and I got quite excited when I found something from the Cupcake Vineyards.

I mean, really!?  How can you resist Cupcake Vineyards?  I chose the Red Velvet and the price was right, only $7.99 (it retails for $12.00 on their website).

Red Velvet description from their website:

Red Velvet is a smooth creamy blend of Zinfandel, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. It’s reminiscent of a blackberry chocolate cupcake with a mocha coulis.  shows an incredible nose of chocolate, deep rich blackberries,  red fruits and a creamy mocha finish that is unmistakable in its intensity and length.

Okay.  Again, I have no idea what “nose of chocolate” or “creamy mocha finish” means.  I should take a class so I don’t continue to sound like an idiot.  I tasted a delicious red wine.  It wasn’t very sweet and didn’t leave a bad aftertaste.  My aunt Terri is a dedicated Merlot drinker and she tried the Red Velvet and said it was awesome and possibly her new favorite.

So, there.  Are you proud of me?  I didn’t tell you all about my box of chill-able red.  I shared a real live delicious bottle of wine.  You should pick one up for yourself.

FTC Disclosure:  This is an unsponsored post.  I bought the wine all by myself.  If you have a product you would like me to include in our weekly wine series, please contact me!
