BlogHer is a distant memory having happened a week ago (I can’t believe it’s been a week already!) and I’m finally getting a real live “re-cap” post up.  I see so many “What I Learned at BlogHer” posts floating around and a lot of them are a tad snarky if you ask me.  I don’t understand why people have to be like that all the time.  I went to BlogHer for the first time with no expectations other than finding and seeing friends, meeting some new companies and having fun.

That is exactly what I did!

This Is Where I Get Mushy

I am part of a group of six amazing bloggers.  We chat online and I can get a hold of one of them at any given time during the day.  It is an amazing support system we have built.  We share idea’s and generally have the most fun ever.  I consider every single one of them my best friend and we have BIG ideas coming soon (are you scared?)!  I was so very excited to get to spend my entire exhausting weekend at BlogHer with one of these gals, Kathleen.

We had THE MOST FUN EVER!  Can you tell?  I first met Kathleen in New Orleans so it was awesome to get to hang out again since I already knew I loved her.  We did nothing but laugh all weekend.

We laughed HARD and we ate weird food together.  I laughed so hard I cried.  She was a fabulous social secretary who told me where to go and when to be there.  We didn’t take a single sponsored picture without the other.

Also part of our group is Lucy, and while she didn’t attend BlogHer (Real Estate classes have totally dominated her life lately) she was able to come down for lunch with us.  We had a great time eating at a little restaurant (that I can’t remember the name of) on 5th Ave.  It was just like hanging out with old girlfriends.

Of course, my BlogHer weekend wasn’t limited to only hanging out with Kathleen.  I found so many people that I talk to on a daily basis and that I instantly recognized even though I had never actually “met” them in person.  Well…I’ve met some of them…just not all.

In the picture (L-R/Top-Bottom):  Jessica / Sara, Candace and KassAnnie / Jenn / Stacie / Crystal and Louise.

I met many more but wasn’t quick enough with my camera to get a picture.  Everyone was moving a mile a minute!

What to Expect at BlogHer

You will not sit down for a moment.  You will run around like a chicken with your head cut off.  There is so much to do, so many people to hug and a lot of companies to introduce yourself to.

I was not lucky enough to afford (or be sponsored to afford) the full conference pass that would have let me in to sessions.  But between the Expo hall (that took THREE days to see it all) and the amazing swag filled parties, I would not have had time to go to a session anyway.  Kathleen had the full pass and she went to no sessions either.

The companies hosting parties host them all at the same time.  So if you want to make your rounds and visit them all…wear comfortable shoes!  Looking back, I laugh now at how worried I was about not having “cute” shoes.  I had on a pair of cute shoes for about 5 minutes and went back to my flip flops.  And you know what?  Nobody cared.

I wore jeans.  I did not change into swanky party clothes and only felt slightly under-dressed at one party.  To worry about what do wear during the day, and changing your clothes for this or that party is quite ridiculous.  Pack light and save your suitcase for swag!

There were presents and food everywhere.  I never wanted for anything (other than a cold Diet Pepsi once in a while that was hard to find).  But the Expo Hall is full of food, ice cream, snacks, McDonald’s slushies and more.  There are games and money machines and presents at every turn.  I was SO glad I had my truck just at the bottom of the elevator because you could easily rack up 3 bags of swag just in one isle.  I was constantly going back and forth to relieve my aching back.

All in all I had a BLAST!  I felt hung over when it was all done and I think I had 2 drinks all weekend (I was driving home at night).  I have a ton of business cards to start going through and emailing my fun new friends.  I have bags of swag that I don’t even feel like going through right now (my kids are “helping”).  Next year BlogHer is in New York City and I can NOT wait to go again!  It was the best time ever!!

Did you go to BlogHer?  I hope you had as much fun as I did!
